“In the long run, we strive to export and create a recognizable brand that is famous for the quality of its products and local authenticity.”

Background
A tribute to the Slovenian provinces.
From now on, gin lovers will have the opportunity to enjoy the new Slovenian gin, which is produced in the newly established micro-distillery Petriot. The first in the Petriot gin series is Zeleni Jurij, with whom they paid homage to Bela Krajina in the micro-distillery. The specialty of Zeleni Jurij gin is a combination of aromatic and typically Bela Krajina ingredients: birch water, rosehip, chamomile, and yarrow. Like Bela Krajina, each subsequent series of Petriot gins will be a tribute to the Slovenian landscape, heritage, and tradition.
It is no coincidence that the inspiration for the first series of Petriot Gina was Bela Krajina. Namely, the Bela Krajina tradition celebrates the feast of St. George with St. George’s Day, a popular spring holiday in Slovenia. Yuri, which according to folk tradition brings spring, abundance, happiness, and joy. This tradition in Zeleni Jurij gin is expressed by local ingredients, especially birch water, and Jurij Petruna, the founder of the Petriot micro-distillery, tells about the folk custom that guided the development of the Bela Krajina gin.
Flavor
The flavors of the gins express the characteristics of the landscapes.
The special feature of Petriot gin is that all the ingredients are local, completely natural, and organically grown. “We add herbs to carefully selected juniper berries from the Slovenian Karst, which we find in various Slovenian regions, thus composing original combinations of flavors,” says Petruna, a native of Bela Krajina who has lived and worked in Ljubljana for years.
In the Bela Krajina series of gins, Zeleni Jurij will be followed by an edition called Lepa Anka. It is another recognized character of Bela Krajina folklore and choir, a dance tradition that is not found anywhere else in Slovenia. The aromas that will enrich Lepa Anka should remain a secret, and without a doubt, the ingredients will be carefully selected, and the combinations of flavors will be original again, Petruna promises. “All gins from the Petriot distillery are designed with those in mind who value authenticity and want to try the original flavors of Slovenian gin. We want people to take a moment for themselves and enjoy the aroma, smell, and taste of the first Bela Krajina gin, ”adds the founder of the Petriot micro-distillery.
Development
The development of a new gin flavor takes several months, Petruna explains, adding that the entire gin production process, from raw material selection, weighing to product packaging, which uses Hrastnik1860’s collection bottle Diabolo, is done manually, only the distillation process is automated, as this ensures gin quality. Everything else about gin is a matter of research and creativity. After years of researching the production process, testing different flavors and combinations of herbs, the decision to open our own Petriot distillery was quite simple.
In it, Petruna primarily wants to produce authentic Slovenian gin of unique flavors, through which foreigners would also get to know unique Slovenian landscapes. Later, they intend to add other products typical of the Slovenian environment to the offer. “In the long run, we strive to export and create a recognizable brand that is famous for the quality of its products and local authenticity,” says its founder Jurij Petruna about the plans for the Petriot micro-distillery.
