Berryshka is a Slovenian craft producer of spirits and liqueurs.
They produce gin, juniper, liqueurs, and they will also upgrade their collection with whiskey. Their range assumes 6 different liqueurs, 3 gins, and 3 junipers. Spirits belong to the higher price range, liqueurs fall into the lower price range. The main products are gin and juniper. Their gin is the most awarded Slovenian gin and is famous for the taste of ten herbs.
The vision of the company is to be recognized as one of the highest quality spirit makers on the market because they have the highest knowledge about herbs and high-quality distillation process. The main consumer is between 25-40 years old, mostly the buyers are women. The identity and personality of the brand are modern, elegant, energetic, unique with the touch of tradition. You can see their current packaging on the left picture.
They are using one bottle for all the drinks, therefore our design proposals needed to tackle all different segments in one shape. They were divided into 4 different options. 1st we offered a similar shape bottle from our existing range. 2nd we offered a completely different shape from our existing range. And in the end, we made 2 bespoke bottles for wholesome premiumization of packaging.
In the search for a defining element to add to the bottle, we chose leaves. Every berry has a leaf and every plant has a leaf. A leaf is a symbol of fertility and growth and it represents hope, renewal, and rebirth. So it is perfect for the new birth of the Berryshka bottle. It holds very powerful symbolism and is our first association with nature. The main goal is modern tradition, so we chose a leaf that looks modern and is by meaning very traditional. The leaves are used in repetition to create a sense of unity and consistency throughout the design. They create a style, cohesiveness, emphasis, and strengthen a visual effect. The formed pattern brings out an aesthetic enjoyment.
Now for the options of different shapes:
1st – We chose our collection bottle Saturn, which is by shape similar to what they are having now. Even though Saturn has a similar shape, it is lighter in weight, which means it is more sustainable. Especially in recent years, designers are increasingly focused on sustainability and we are actively seeking out ways to make our designs kinder to our planet. We tried to premiumize these bottles by ranges, from basic labels to coating and adding more value with decoration. We picked the bottle with finish Faschetta, which allows us to use cork closures.
2nd – Another bottle from our collection, Luna has the shape that personifies modern tradition. Her rounded shape tends to send a positive emotional message of harmony and protection. It is also a shape that is related to the shape of a berry. Her soft curves represent connection and community.
3rd – The bottle stands tall and straight. It is curved on the shoulders and has a sphere piqure, which makes it softer and more approachable, and also a little bit sharp on the edges of the structure, which depicts strength and presence.
4th – is more berry-like. The bottle is lower and wider. This round shape tends to send a positive emotional message of harmony and protection. Round shapes have no beginning or end, they represent life and the lifecycle. The circle is readily found in nature with the sun, moon, and earth, not to mention fruit and flowers. Because the round in nature tends to be viewed as feminine, we added a straight-lined debossed texture that is more masculine. The whole shape is that way complete and gives a sense of integrity and perfection.
Samo Kenda and his Berryshka team could not sleep, that is how excited they were with the design options that they received from Hrastnik.
They had 4 different options of shape to choose from. From basic to complex. Not just that, also all the different decoration, embossing, piqure, straps, dots, etc. As it always depends on the client’s wishes, needs and resources the choice is always hard to make, but we think we gave the customer the right ideas that will take their spirits to the higher level.
